07.05.2022 – 03.10.2022 BUNDESKUNSTHALLE Bonn 13.11.2022 – 12.02.2023 NEUES MUSEUM Staatliches Museum für Kunst und Design Nürnberg 13.11.2022 - 12.02.2023 Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz Museum Gunzenhauser The Bundeskunsthalle regularly shows exhibitions with works from the federal collection. This presents a selection of around 170 works that were purchased by the expert commission during the five-year period (2017–2021) as well as works that were acquired by an expanded commission with funds from NEUSTART KULTUR (2020–2021). The mix of the two acquisitions promises the greatest possible topicality and a representative cross-section of contemporary, sometimes very young production. The curatorial concept was developed with a team of members of the acquisition commissions, and the chosen title of the exhibition, a quote from the work, already refers to the demands placed on the selection of works: diversity, tolerance and social and personal questioning are the criteria according to which the works were selected. Other key issues for the dialogic concept were contemporary political and social relevance, post- colonial discourse, post-humanity, historical constructions, urbanity, and the aesthetics of images inherent in the work. The exhibition takes into account the federal government's collection, which is relevant in a contemporary context, and illustrates how historical and current developments, collective viewing habits, and the questioning of image constructions are implemented artistically and in a model-like manner. The selection of works also shows that current forms of artistic expression encompass a wide range of techniques and media - from large- scale installations, drawing, painting, and sculpture to photography and video works. © dirkdietrichhennig.com 2024

DIRK DIETRICH HENNIG DIE SAMMLUNG RUDOLF 17.08.22 - 08.01.23 UPPER COLLECTION The Rudolf Collection brings together around 60 works by the historian and autodidact Carl Gerhardt Rudolf. Avant-garde artists such as Lucio Fontana, painters of classical modernism such as Picasso and Piet Mondrian can be found in Rudolf's acquired repertoire, as can the Hanoverian Dadaist Kurt Schwitters and many others. C.G. Rudolf's life, which was at times involuntarily used for the GDR government's foreign exchange procurement services, is exciting and equally tragic. The exhibition brings together around 60 undated works from Rudolf's estate, including copied works by important artists such as Pablo Picasso, Piet Mondrian, Kurt Schwitters, Claes Oldenburg, Lucio Fontana, Roy Lichtenstein and Christo, to name just a few. In addition, works that Rudolf added to an existing oeuvre, as well as historical documents - files and press articles - are presented in the exhibition. CONTEMPORARY ART FROM LOWER SAXONY The volume “Dirk Dietrich Hennig” (Wallstein Verlag, 90 pages) is available at the Sprengel Museum Hannover, it costs 19.80 euros. The exhibition is sponsored by and takes place in cooperation with the Lower Saxony Foundation.
